Crested Butte Academy teams up with Crested Butte Ski Club to provide the best training, both on and off the hill, for its young athletes who wish to pursue intensive ski racing.
Coaches from other clubs visit Crested Butte and envy our training hill, which we virtually have to ourselves. Serviced by a short T-bar, racers train for Slalom, Super G, and GS, often alongside world-class competitors from the Western State College ski team. Speed training is our club specialty. The turnaround time on the T-bar is about seven minutes, so racers get as much training in per day as their legs can handle while still allowing plenty of time for longer runs on the high-speed quads. Several electric timing starts are built into our race arena, allowing us to easily set up time trials. The club room is located on the mountain for easy video review, chalk talks, and ski storage.
Mt. Crested Butte, home of the U.S. Extreme Skiing Championships, has unusually challenging terrain and snow conditions that really become your most important coaches. Two high-speed quads and other chairlifts service terrain that includes rolling intermediate trails, steep groomed slopes, moguls, cliffs, cornices, chutes, and more.
Racers at CBA join the Rocky Mountain Division of the United States Ski Association. They train with the Crested Butte Ski Team.
