Pete's Log: Landeshauptstadt München
Entry #1393, (Life in General)(posted when I was 28 years old.)
So I've arrived in Munich...
After leaving Pittsburgh, I got to South Bend and there spent one evening with George, trying to barhop in SB. Turns out a number of places were closed, but that's ok... the next day I met up with Paul and got to see his family. Had a fun time.
Then, I beat my own single day driving record by 100 miles. I drove from South Bend to Boulder in one day. 1100 miles in 16 hours. By myself. I stopped maybe four times for gas/refreshments/restrooms breaks. Andy welcomed me to Boulder by doing a shot of something with me. After the drive, I needed it.
I spent two nights in Boulder and had a good time hanging out with Andy... then I drove to CB and hung out there several days. I left K2 behind there, which was sad. I figured out that I'd driven that car through 31 states and 1 district. I'd also driven it in 19 of the 50 largest cities in the US, including numbers 1, 2, and 3. K2 and I went coast to coast, and I'll never forget the freedom and the adventures it took me on.
Then on I drove to Albuquerque, where I saw a bunch of family and friends. From there I flew back to Maryland. After a last few nights there, Gandhi and I got on an airplane to Germany. Yama's wife got me an upgrade to business class, and Gandhi got to come in the cabin with me, so the trip went smooth. At customs Gandhi made it through perfectly. All the papers were in order and his new microchip scanned fine.
Frank picked me up at the airport and took me by walmart to buy an air mattress. Then on to my new apartment, which is in the same building as Frank's. The apartment is awesome. Light hardwood floors and large windows that all face Southish, so it's incredibly light.
Within walking distance (5 minutes) I've found an internet café, a drug store, a bank, a grocery store, Italian, Thai, Greek and German restaurants, a Beergarden, a Deli, a hair place, a bakery, and more. A slightly longer walk (10-15 minutes) takes me to a large shopping center with bigger stores.
Two bus lines have stops within 5 minutes of my place -- the 50 and the 59. I'm also close to the Northern end of the English Garden, where I've spent a good amount of time walking already.
I also found an expat bar run by some Australians. They have NFL games on their broadcast schedule and will play college football on request if it doesn't conflict with anything. I'm not sure if I'll be watching the GT game though -- it starts at 4am Munich time.
I also survived my first day of work on Friday. It was spent just learning the ropes and setting up my laptop.
That's all for now...
