Pete's Log: It's alive!
Entry #1918, (Life in General)(posted when I was 42 years old.)
The village of Brookfield is in charge of trees in our parkway, but if you ask nicely and pay half the cost, they will plant a tree for you. We already have one tree in our parkway, but wanted another. So early in 2019, we filled out the form, gave them a check, and selected a red oak since we wanted something native.
A few months later, our tree was planted. And we were excited. But about a month or so in, it started looking sad and by the fall we were pretty sure it wasn't going to survive. By spring of 2020 we were certain it was dead. Luckily, the village will plant another one if your first one doesn't survive. So last year they uprooted the dead tree and planted another one. And it seemed healthier all year. And then fall came and the leaves fell and we had to wait and wait and wait to see if it survived. So we were very excited to see this a couple days ago:
In unrelated plant survival news, we have a spider plant that we bought just after buying the house. Last summer, JB went through a phase of picking leaves and plantlets off of it. I decided to try replanting a couple of those unfortunate plantlets in a new pot, and they thrived. Here they are with their parent in the background:
