Pete's Log: Molting Season
Entry #2143, (Chickens)(posted when I was 44 years old.)
Olaf stopped laying eggs a week or so ago. She seemed happy and healthy otherwise, so we didn't worry about it too much.
Today though, we've been finding Olaf feathers everywhere. Turns out some chickens start their annual molt as early as the end of August. And chickens also pause their laying while they molt. So that seems to be what's going on.
Despite the impressive number of feathers she's leaving behind, you wouldn't really know from looking at her.
