Pete's Log: Maintenance

Entry #2312, (Coding, Hacking, & CS stuff, Fermentation, Homeownership)
(posted when I was 44 years old.)

We had the plumber here this morning. They stuck a camera down our sewer to confirm that we did in fact have tree roots in our sewer line. Still so many things to learn about home ownership. We got lucky in two ways though:

  1. We found the problem before it caused any serious issues
  2. The plumber discovered he could access the sewer line through an old disconnected downspout line, which made rodding much easier.

The downside is that nowhere do we have 6 inch access to our sewer line, which I guess is one of those things modern homes do. So they recommend installing that sort of access, since they were only able to partially clear things via the 3 inch access our house offers.

Today I also ran OS updates across all the nodes in my raspberry pi cluster. I discovered one of the nodes was down and I hadn't noticed again. Some time ago I actually wrote and deployed a little utility that posts some cluster status statistics to MQTT. I was planning to display that on my desktop LED display but haven't gotten around to updating the code running on it.

I also fed Milkshake today, for the first time in months. Sorry Milkshake. I'm seeing some activity, so I'm cautiously hopeful it's still alive.
