Pete's Log: Some Links You Should Read

Entry #2572, (Link Dump)
(posted when I was 46 years old.)

  • The Global Surveillance Free-for-All in Mobile Ad Data (krebsonsecurity.com)
Long, but worth reading. At the very least, read the "What Can You Do?" section at the end.
  • I am my own legal department (citationneeded.news)
Molly White is worth reading in general, and these are good insights on the current journalism market.
  • Retiring the US debt would retire the US dollar (pluralistic.net)
This is an interesting take on what national debt is that I don't think I've come across before. It's a take that sounds superficially plausible, but I'm not certain I fully buy it (or maybe just don't fully grasp it). Since dollars are issued by the Federal Reserve and debt by the Treasury, it does seem like the Treasury debt could be retired without retiring the dollars issued by the Fed. And when they say governments "tax money out of existence" I'm not sure I follow, since those dollars still exist on a balance sheet somewhere.
Cory Doctorow is a smart guy, though. And it is an interesting way of thinking about things. And yes of course let's please tax billionaires more.

This is a little experiment. Let's see if anything comes of it.
