Pete's Log: The Lost Steersman and The Spellshop

Entry #2639, (Books, Writing, n such)
(posted when I was 46 years old.)

I recently finished two books:

  • The Lost Steersman by Rosemary Kirstein

The third book in the Steerswoman series. I did not enjoy it as much as the first two. There was a lot of interesting world building and some new supporting characters that I liked, but I found our protagonist less likable in this book and the plot sort of dragged at times. That being said, I enjoyed it enough that I fully intend to read book four in the series. I may just take a little break before I do. In part because the fourth is the last published book, but the series is meant to be a six book series. Give the author a little time to maybe get book five out.

  • The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst

Jamie enjoyed this one and recommended it. I finished it in two days. It's a cozy "romantasy" that features a sentient spider plant. I laughed often. It was exactly the book I needed. Recommended to anyone who isn't put off by the "cozy romantasy" description.

Attentive readers will note that The Spellshop was not on my to-read pile, and the next book I've picked up isn't either. Seems to be the way of things.
