Pete's Log: Last Day of Standard Time

Entry #2656, (Life in General, Parenthood)
(posted when I was 46 years old.)

I heard and saw Sandhill Cranes on numerous occasions today. It's a sound I've come to appreciate as a harbinger of spring.

Another sign of spring is JB's favorite ice cream place opening. Today was not only opening day for Tate's, but also a friend's birthday party there. Since the space is small, it was a drop-your-kid-off sort of event. The first party we've done so. It was obviously the first such event for a number of parents, since many of them were awkwardly milling around when I dropped JB off. As I was trying to leave, JB asked me why I had to leave if so many other parents were still there. But then the staff started shooing us parents out.

After the party, Gaga picked JB up to spend a night at their house. Jamie and I then headed to the Cube at Standard Market to enjoy a charcuterie board and some beers.

It was a pleasant outing. We used to indulge ourselves at the Cube regularly, but it's been a while. Too long, really.

Afterwards, I learned that Jamie had never seen The Princess Bride, so we watched that. It remains a favorite for me and Jamie enjoyed it as well.

Spring is near and Jamie is the best, so that's what we're going to focus on. Now we lose some sleep and gain some evening light.
