Pete's Log: Not so foolish

Entry #2258, (Homeownership, Movies)
(posted when I was 44 years old.)

The saga of the garage door opener continues. Today I got the opener mounted, which took longer than anticipated, mainly because I decided to move the electrical outlet again. Centering the opener on the garage door winds up making it almost abut to one of the joists I need to mount it from. And that joist just so happens to be the one I mounted the outlet to.

So after getting everything in position, I decided I'd really like the opener just an inch closer to the joist, and the outlet made that impossible. Luckily I hadn't returned the conduit cutting tool to Rich yet, so moving the outlet was easy, just a little tedious.

So now I'm pretty pleased with how the opener is hanging. The next remaining step is just wiring up the safety beams and the button to operate it. And those steps will wait until tomorrow.

A few years ago I read Mortal Engines and enjoyed it, so a few days ago when Jamie was looking for a book to read, I recommended it to her. She liked it well enough, so we found ourselves pondering the movie.

None of the streaming services we have carry it, but Jamie found our local library has it on DVD. So while I was doing garage stuff, Jamie took a stroll to the library and brought back the Mortal Engines movie on DVD.

We dusted off the DVD player and had ourselves a fun time watching it. The movie differs from the book quite a bit, sometimes in ways that didn't really make sense. None of the characters come across as terribly likeable in the movie, but if you just enjoy it for the effects and the novel premise of mobile cities eating each other, then it's quite alright.

In any event, we certainly can recommend renting DVDs from the library.
