Pete's Log: Desk Update
Entry #2615, (Life in General, Parenthood)(posted when I was 46 years old.)
2021 was a productive year for me in terms of "making". And there are a variety of reasons my productivity has sagged since then (I liked to say it was because JB stopped napping in 2022). But of late I've been thinking maybe part of the problem is that I can no longer impulse-solder.
When I was at my most productive, my desk had a space for soldering:

But instead of leaving things in that blissful state, I kept adding things, and soon there was no longer room on the desk for the soldering iron. I did buy a folding table and set it up occasionally for soldering (and sewing) but it's not the same as having to only turn on the power to start soldering. And I just also missed having space to write or do any sort of activities. So today I bought my desk a sidecar.
And as I was putting things back together again, I couldn't get myself to place esgerbeastie or the UPS back on the desk. I don't feel great about them being on the floor since this is a basement after all, but I'm thinking maybe I can buy a platform to raise them a few inches off the ground.
But the end result is that my work area feels spacious again for the first time in years. I am pleased.
JB stopped by a few times to help and also had Sauerkraut evaluate the area under the desk as a bear work space. I didn't realize until later that as part of this process she had made and hung some art on the wall under the desk.
