Pete's Log: Spy Kids and Saturday Night TV

Entry #2698, (Movies, Random Crap)
(posted when I was 46 years old.)

JB requested that we watch Spy Kids this evening, and so we did. It's a 2001 film that neither Jamie nor I had seen before. It had quite the cast and was delightfully silly. Reading the Wikipedia article for the film, I found this quote from a piece written 20 years after the movie:

Rodriguez’s fantastical dreamscape hearkens back to an era when four-quadrant popcorn movies could just be weird without having to explain themselves.

And that resonated with me—not just for movies, but also for TV. 2001 was peak Saturday night TV and boy did we watch some silly and weird shows. By complete coincidence, On This Day just reminded me of Special Unit 2. Looking it up, I discovered the Internet Archive had the entire series available for download!

Which got me curious about some of our other old favorites. And thus I found both Cleopatra 2525 and Jack of All Trades. I'm a little concerned they won't have aged well. But I won't let that stop me.
